How do microplastics affect human health?
Frontiers of Marine Science conducted a study in 2017 which discovered microplastics in 75% of fish sampled. Meaning, if you eat fish, there’s a good chance you could be eating microplastics, which are harmful to your health.
Scientists suspect that microplastics pose a greater hazard to human health than previously thought. They suspect that microplastics will have a negative impact on the gut microbiome, which is linked with humans immune health function. Some studies have also shown that microplastics in the air may cause lung cells to produce inflammatory chemicals.
